Get ready for an exciting revelation! The Evolution Championship series, a staple in the world of fighting games, is about to shake things up. With its 25-year legacy, Evo is set to announce its 2026 plans much earlier than usual, and the date is locked in!
The 2026 Evo Announcement Show is scheduled for December 9, 2025, at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET.
But here's where it gets intriguing: this announcement show is breaking from tradition. Typically, we'd expect these reveals within the first few months of the year, but Evo is switching things up!
During this show, we'll get insights into Evo 2026, Evo Japan 2026, and the 2026 Evo Awards. We already have the dates for these major tournaments, with Evo Japan 2026 set for May 1-3 and Evo USA 2026 in Las Vegas from June 26-28.
So, what can we expect? Most likely, we'll be diving into the fighting game rosters for these events, which is always an exciting prospect.
The big names from previous events are expected to return, including Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, and Guilty Gear Strive. But the real intrigue lies in the games below these heavyweights.
Mortal Kombat 1, traditionally a staple, might lose its spot due to low participation at Evo 2025. Meanwhile, Under Night In-Birth 2 and Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising could be in the running for a spot on the roster.
This shift is partly due to some exciting new titles on the horizon. 2XKO, with its connection to Evo founders Tom and Tony Cannon, is a strong contender for a slot at the big events. Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is another potential addition, especially for Evo Japan 2026, with Sega likely pushing their current game and building hype for the upcoming New Virtua Fighter Project.
The biggest wildcard is Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls. Normally, this game would be a shoo-in, but its release date for 2026 is uncertain, which could impact its eligibility for Evo 2026.
Invincible VS, another upcoming title, could also be in the mix. Hunter x Hunter: Nen Impact, which made an appearance at Evo France 2025, might return despite its smaller audience.
And this is the part most people miss: Evo's representation of classic titles. Will they continue with Street Fighter 3: Third Strike and Marvel vs. Capcom 2? Perhaps they'll celebrate Capcom vs. SNK 2's 25th anniversary or bring back Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Mortal Kombat 9 for their 15th anniversaries.
This year also marks a new era for Evo, as it finds itself under new management. Sony sold its stake to NODWIN Gaming, followed by Qiddiya from Saudi Arabia acquiring the rest from RTS. So, the future of Evo is an open question, and we can't wait to see what's in store!
Stay tuned, and let's discuss in the comments: What fighting game titles do you think will make the cut for Evo 2026?
