Well, according to Richard Pinabel, the global president of Armani Beauty, it's all about evolution and innovation. He believes that staying static in a changing world is not an option.

"The new Luminous Silk Foundation has been in the works for four years, and it's set to impress with 18 additional shades, taking the total to a diverse 44. It's also been reformulated to be less perfumed, non-comedogenic (a blessing for acne-prone skin), and enriched with new ingredients like glycerin, niacinamide, and extracts of Mediterranean lily and white lupine."

And that's not all! The foundation's bottle has undergone a sleek transformation, switching from frosted to clear glass packaging.

Pinabel acknowledges the potential backlash if the reformulation didn't live up to expectations. "We aimed to make it the same, but better - a challenging task indeed," he admits.

To ensure the foundation's success, Armani Beauty sought honest reviews from their makeup artist ambassadors during its development. Celebrity makeup artist Carolina Gonzalez, who works with Sabrina Carpenter and Gigi Hadid, gave it a thumbs up, noting a smoother finish and longer wear.

Armani Beauty's campaign, "The Glow Secret is Out," celebrates the foundation's loyal following among makeup artists, who have been key to its success. "They made it their secret weapon, and now it's a true cult favorite," says Pinabel.

The relaunch has a cinematic touch, with the foundation making its debut at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards pre-party and on stars like Renate Reinsve and Natasha Lyonne during the award show.

"We have a rich history with cinema, starting with American Gigolo, where Richard Gere wore Armani suits. Mr. Armani has a strong connection to the film industry, and we're partners with numerous film festivals worldwide," Pinabel explains.

To bring the Luminous Silk Foundation to life, Armani Beauty is taking over The Grove in Hollywood from January 16 to 18. They've collaborated with La La Land Kind Café for custom Luminous Silk lattes, hosted masterclasses by celebrity makeup artists, and offered guests the chance to find their perfect shade and take home a free bottle of the foundation, which hits stores on January 19.

Pinabel emphasizes the importance of real-world experiences, especially for foundation launches that require shade matching. "We strive to balance online and offline experiences. Beauty offline is crucial," he says.

The foundation's demographic is evolving too, as Armani Beauty aims to attract millennials and Gen Zs with engaging in-person activations like their "In the Spotlight" franchise, offering exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the world of Armani beauty. Traditionally a favorite among Gen X consumers, the brand's global ambassador lineup reflects its broad appeal, featuring Cate Blanchett (56) and Kendall Jenner (30).

Pinabel is optimistic about the future, with L'Oréal Group's license extended to 2025. He teases, "I think it's going to be the year of Armani, with one big surprise coming."
